Who can play in AYS&B?

All kids that will be 5 years old by May 1st of that season through 8th grade are eligible and encouraged to play!  AYS&B provides organized baseball and softball for children in the Altoona School District, Township of Washington, and nearby communities.

What does the general season calendar look like?

  • Registration: January 1 - March 1
  • Teams Formed: Mid March
  • Schedules Created: Early April
  • Practices Start: Mid April (depending on weather)
  • Opening Day:  Late April (depending on weather)
  • Season Ends: Mid to Late June

Rookies co-ed baseball registration is open until April 15th and that season will run June through July.

Where are games played?

The Rookies, Coach Pitch, Minors, and Majors programs play all games in Altoona while all other programs will play their games in Altoona and surrounding communities.

What are the gameplay rules for the different programs?

The rules for our Rookies, Coach Pitch, Minors, and Majors divisions are put together and maintained by AYS&B.  For all other levels, AYS&B follows the rules of the Chippewa Valley Baseball League (CVBL) and the Chippewa Valley Girls Fastpitch League (CVGFL).  More info can be found here.

Registration FAQs

 

When is registration?

Registration runs from January 1 - March 1 each year.

Rookies co-ed baseball registration is open until April 15th and that season will run June through July.

What grade do I select for my player?

Select the grade your player is currently enrolled in for school.  Once you select the grade, the registration will display the eligible programs.

Can I request that my player is on a team with a certain coach or player?

Requesting for your player to be on a team with others or with a certain coach is something you can do in the notes section during registration.  While there are no guarantees, we will do our best to accommodate requests.  Remember, AYS&B is a great way to meet new friends too! 

Do you offer financial assistance for registration fees if needed?

Absolutely!  AYS&B wants all children to have the opportunity to play.  Please reach out to any board member for more information.

How are the registration fees used?

AYS&B is a non-profit organization and registration fees are used to pay for field rental, insurance, player uniforms and shared equipment such as balls, bats, catcher gear, first aid kits, batting cages, etc. 

I missed the registration cutoff; can I still register my player?

Late registration is reviewed on a case by case basis and depends on a variety of factors.  If you've missed the registration cutoff send us a note and we'll see what we can do!

Volunteering FAQs

 

I'm interested in helping out with a team; how do I sign up?

During registration you can let us know if you are interested in being a head coach, assistant coach, or team parent.  Once registration ends we will know how many coaches are needed and will reach out to those interested.   Anyone interested in volunteering with AYS&B in any capacity is required to complete a background check
